“When God gave Israel its first great victory at Jericho (Josh. 6), Satan attacked. God had commanded the Israelites not to keep anything from Jericho for themselves (Josh. 6:17–19). One man disobeyed. As a result, Israel was defeated soundly when it attacked the next city, Ai. God countered Satan’s move to start general disobedience in the nation by ordering the guilty man and his family stoned to death (Josh. 7). Satan’s next attack caught Israel off guard. He was determined to preserve some of the depraved Canaanites so that Israel would be exposed to their degeneracy. The people of the city of Gibeon deceived Israel into believing that they were not Canaanites. Without consulting God first, Israel made a covenant not to destroy the Gibeonites. Thus these pagan people were permitted to remain in the midst of Israel (Josh.”

“Because God has determined that Israel be the spiritual leader of the whole world during the future theocratic kingdom, He will not establish that kingdom until that nation itself is spiritually right with Him through repentance. For that reason Jesus Christ commissioned His apostles to preach the gospel of the kingdom, “Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand,” exclusively to the people of Israel (Mt. 10:5–7). It is Israel, not the Gentiles or Samaritans, that must be spiritually right with God before He will establish the kingdom. Thus, in accord, with God’s sovereignance plan for the world, Israel remains a key to the fulfillment of God’s purpose for history. The saints of all previous ages of history will constitute the total population of the theocratic kingdom in its beginning.”

We should be making every effort to evangelize the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ defined in 1 Corinthians 15:1–8 (Mk. 16:15), to ground believers in the rest of God’s truth by systematically teaching them God’s Word (Mt. 28:19–20; Eph. 4:11–12), and to pray earnestly for God to send a great spiritual awakening that will be instigated, governed, and empowered by the Holy Spirit and completely conformed to God’s thoughts, ways, and truth.
