Dutch publicist and film director, known for his controversial statements on television and in print.

In the beginning of his career he was known for his "shock movies" later he started to make movies based on Dutch literature.

Two of his movies were remade in English versions.

In 2004 he made an movie together with Somali-born Islam critic Ayaan Hirsi Ali, as a result he was murdered by an religious muslim.
