The author’s interest in law enforcement actually began the summer of his freshman year at Oregon State University when he worked summers for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in commercial fisheries enforcement in Alaska. Upon graduation from Oregon State - intrigued with human behavior, as well as a love of the outdoors – he accepted a job as a game warden for the Oregon State Police. This experience instilled in him a desire to study why people deviate. As a result, he took a job as a patrol officer with the Berkeley, CA Police Department and began a formal study of criminology at the University of California at Berkeley, where he majored in etiology and police administration.
