Given that he is the norm of the Bible, he is the standard by which its divergent views of violence, war, nonviolence, and peace must be judged. His status as the norm, and the fact that his followers for three centuries understood him to be an advocate of nonviolence, create a prima facie case for Christians to be passionate about God’s dream of a world of justice and peace.
