Ron Thompson grew up on the Canadian prairies. After serving as a naval officer, he spent two years as a development worker in southern Africa. He subsequently pursued a career in Canada and internationally as an economist, investment banker, and consultant.

Ron's satiric first novel, A Person of Letters, was published in 2015. Its prequel, Poplar Lake, appeared in 2018. His historical novel The Wind From All Directions, set in the Pacific Northwest in 1792, was released in early 2024. His short fiction has appeared in Canadian Voices (Bookland Press), his historical commentaries in the literary publication The Burney Letter, and his short compositions on the surrealist-inspired drabble site Exquisite Corpse.
