I know the general story arc and key points, but I let the story shape itself. I think that helps with writer's block, because when I can't figure a way forward, the story naturally takes a pivot.

In bad cases, I simply jump ahead. That allows me to start writing again and avoid frustration. It also gives me a target to aim for when I go back to the section that stymied me.(less)
