Major Aftab Ahmed was born in village Kharian District Gujrat. He graduated from Isalmia College Lahore. In December 1968 he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in 25th Battalion of the Baluch Regiment. Enjoyed command and staff experience as a young and a middle ranking field officer and participated in the unfortunate civil war in East Pakistan leading to 1971 Indo-Pak war. In January 1984, along with many others, he was arrested by Gen Zia's military regime for resistance against martial law. Declared the principal accused and tried in-camera by a special military court at Attock Fort for waging war against Pakistan he was sentenced to a rigorous term for life.
