Natalie has been the editor of the Guardian Weekly newspaper, a volunteer
with the Thai National Commission on Women’s Affairs, and a (not very
good) rugby player, football goalie and cricket wicketkeeper. She has lived
on three continents, taken degrees in agricultural science, history and politics,
and social science, and gone from being the child of an apprentice carpenter
in Australia to membership of the UK House of Lords (since 2019).
She joined the Green Party of England and Wales on January 1, 2006,
with the resolution to “do something” about the state of the world, but would

A feminist from age five, when she was told because she was a girl, she

Podcast and blog on my new book Green Thinking

Really enjoyed this discussion with Adrian Goldberg on the Bylines Times Podcast about my new book, Green Thinking: Unlearning Outdated Ideas in Science, Economics and Politics, and much appreciated the write-up.

He gets it when he says what this book is working towards is "a complete transformation in how we see the world — a change she hopes will infuse our politics"!

As I told him, it’s time to Read more of this blog post »

Green Thinking by Natalie Bennett
“Whatever we make, or invent, or build, is with us forever; we cannot throw it away. The methan and carbon diocide we put into the atmosphere will have effects, just like the nitrogen and phospate we flush into our rivers. They will end up impacting on human and more-than-human bodies, and lives. So the first question is 'should we be doing this?' That must replace the standard 20th-century question: 'can we make a profit from doing this?”

Possibly the finest single piece of scholarship I have ever read. Only three decades ago, so distinguished a feminist historian as Gerda Lerner was saying there were no more than 300 learned women up until 1700 in the entire Christian era, suggesting ...more

“The energy, time and talents of billions of humans, working with respect for and in co-operation with all of the living creatures on this planet and the immensely complex ecosystems on which they and we depend, can be a truly caring, humane, just world. We do not have to repeat the 1930s and 1940s. It is our choice to seize the democratic power to stop it happening, to turn away from that far-right leader shouting crude insults at anyone they determine an enemy of 'the people'. We can jointly choose a positive direction, rethink the ways our societies operate, restore that which has been frayed and worn down, rebuild anew a sustainable, caring, joyful way of living.”
