After graduating in Literature and Russian Language at Turin University, Gian Piero Piretto, born in 1952, taught in various universities including Turin, Bergamo and Parma. Since 1994, he has been a teacher of Russian culture and methodology of visual culture at Università Statale in Milan. Besides being a translator for various publishers of works by Čechov (Teatro, I racconti della maturità), Okudþzava ("Arbat mio Arbat"), Popov ("Strane coincidenze") and Gavrilov (Alle soglie della vita nuova) he also wrote many books on the history of Russian literature (Derelitti, bohemiens e malaffari.
