I am an Australian children's writer of fiction, nonfiction and verse. I mostly write picture books about animals and nature. Some have been recognised for awards, including the Wilderness Society Environment Award for Children's Literature and Whitley Awards.
A former outdoor educator, zoologist and zookeeper, I hope to leave readers with a love of words, curiosity and nature.
I live in Melbourne, Australia with my husband, daughter and big, black dog, Banjo.

Beautiful watercolour illustrations accompany rhyming text about the worlds (ecosystems) that you find above and below in the forest and how all things are interconnected. Even on Mars, because we are all made of stardust.

Interesting, but I didn't understand all of it. Amazing world-building. A complex story in which there are many different ways to interpret what occurs. Certainly lots of food for thought in it, and a remarkable book for its time. ...more

This fun story is not about a cat that steal things, as I expected. It's about a little girl who so desperately wants a pet cat that she picks them up off the street and takes them home...even if they clearly belong to someone! Rule of three - three ...more

A lovely story for young children with an environmental theme. What can you do when someone keeps chopping down the trees? The animals take it into their own hands (or paws).

A simple description of relationships within a forest ecosystem. It's a great idea, with lovely illustrations. A couple of the connections could be a little more difficult to grasp though, such as the bird shaking the branch when it lands in the tree ...more

A YA fantasy adventure. The first person narrative quite irked me. I thought all the descriptions of the narrator's eye rolls and smirks was more suited to third person. The story was fine though. ...more

YA fantasy with overtones of Lord of the Rings and the Dark is Rising but this entertaining story has to have one of the biggest plot twists I've ever encountered. I will watch out for the second book in this series. ...more
