We live in the information age. As a result, young children are surrounded by electronic toys, mobile phones, tablets and computers and have become surprisingly adept at using them. Common Sense Media, an organization dedicated to safe technology use states that 98 per cent of children under eight years of age have access to a tablet or smartphone. Most of the reviews are comparing this to Bridgerton, which I've never seen. It was auto-suggested by my library so I took a chance. It's fluffy, girly and a typical period-style romance. The friendship component is endearing but everything revolving ...more

What a great book and I also loved the series and wished they had continued it. Not enough is said about the women who did their bit to help out and boost moral during the war. I loved the community spirit in this and will read her other books.

I appreciated the candor in this story. However, it started out stronger than it finished. I enjoyed the storyline but it is categorized as a memoir with the author then stating that parts of it are fictionalized so I wasn't sure how to frame things. ...more

So many twists and turns in this one. I haven't gasped out loud or cried at a book in a long time. Vivid characters and a good description of the complexities of life. I found it on the new releases shelf at the library and I'm glad I did. A fair amo ...more

I loved Brooklyn when I read it and felt the film adaptation was excellent as well a few years later. I also read Nora Webster by Toibin. I wondered how this book might measure up but the reviews were good so I took a chance and was not disappointed. ...more
More of Lorelei's books…
Rainer Maria Rilke
“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”
Rainer Maria Rilke

Viktor E. Frankl
“What man actually needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for some goal worthy of him. What he needs is not the discharge of tension at any cost, but the call of a potential meaning waiting to be fulfilled by him.”
Victor Frankl

Corrie ten Boom
“Do you know what hurts so very much? It's love. Love is the strongest force in the world, and when it is blocked that means pain. There are two things we can do when this happens. We can kill that love so that it stops hurting. But then of course part of us dies, too. Or we can ask God to open up another route for that love to travel.”
Corrie Ten Boom, The Hiding Place: The Triumphant True Story of Corrie Ten Boom

Susan Cain
“I am a horse for a single harness, not cut out for tandem or teamwork … for well I know that in order to attain any definite goal, it is imperative that one person do the thinking and the commanding. —ALBERT EINSTEIN”
Susan Cain, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking

Shannon L. Alder
“Never rearrange your life in order to meet Mr. Darcy half way. If he couldn’t see your worth at the moment you met then he won’t two years later. May the halls of Pemberly be filled with his regrets and your life filled with thankfulness because of this revelation.”
Shannon Alder
