Jack Hambleton (1901-1961) was born in England and moved to Canada when he was one year old. It is unsure whether his family settled in Pickering straight away, but Pickering did eventually became his home community. He was an avid outdoorsman as well as a journalist. He worked for the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star for a number of years. He became an expert on hunting and fishing in Northern Ontario, and was a director of Ontario’s Travel and Publicity Bureau, founding it in 1934. He was a deputy game warden, a deputy forest ranger, and the holder of a guide’s license for Ontario. His books specialize in outdoor writing.
