“That was my first lesson: don't matter what they say you should want. Only you know what it is you need most.”
Janice Lynn Mather, Learning to Breathe

“I hear music coming from across. the way, music unlike anything I've heard before. Neither church music nor island music, it lacks drums but seems heavy and sticky and sweet, like guava duff sauce, sugar beaten and pearlized with fat, spun with jeweled fruit puree, laced with rum.”
Janice Lynn Mather, Facing the Sun

“Soca blasts brash brass like the world is made of nothing bus reasons to shake and wine.”
Janice Lynn Mather
