Madina’s Recent Updates

Madina and 5 other people liked Enya's review of Europa (Yeoyu, #3):
Europa by Han Kang
"I love a short story that can give me a good idea of someone's life in very little space"
The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez
"Remarkable -- Jimenez has constructed a literary sff story-within-stories that is utterly original, steeped long and thick in critical understandings of (post)colonial relationality, governance, folklore, and kinship, and yet light in touch and fast-" Read more of this review »

More of Madina's books…
Anthony Marra
“As someone whose days were defined by the ten thousand ways a human can hurt, she needed, now and then, to remember that the nervous system didn't exist exclusively to feel pain.”
Anthony Marra, A Constellation of Vital Phenomena

Margaret Atwood
“When I was younger I used to think that if I could hug myself tight enough I could make myself smaller, because there was never enough room for me, at home or anywhere, but if I was smaller then I would fit in.”
Margaret Atwood, Alias Grace

Ocean Vuong
“The most beautiful part of your body
is where it’s headed. & remember,
loneliness is still time spent
with the world.”
Ocean Vuong

Yoon Ha Lee
“It is not true that the dead cannot be folded. Square becomes kite becomes swan; history becomes rumor becomes song. Even the act of remembrance creases the truth. What the paper-folding diagrams fail to mention is that each fold enacts itself upon the secret marrow of your ethics, the axioms of your thoughts. Whether this is the most important thing the diagrams fail to mention is a matter of opinion.”
Yoon Ha Lee, Conservation of Shadows

Toni Morrison
“Don't ever think I fell for you, or fell over you. I didn't fall in love, I rose in it.”
Toni Morrison, Jazz
