Sunme Yoon nació en Corea del Sur en 1965 y se mudó junto a su familia a Buenos Aires, Argentina, cuando tenía tan solo cinco años.

Es Licenciada en Letras por la Universidad de Buenos Aires y doctora en Literatura Española Medieval por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Se mudó a Corea del Sur en 1997 y poco después empezó a trabajar de traductora, descubriendo y poniendo al alcance de los lectores hispanohablantes a autoras como Han Kang.
