José van Winden (1970) groeit op met vijf zussen en een broer in een dorp in de Randstad. Ze schrijft verhalen en scripts voor musicals en korte films. In 2017 debuteert ze met de roman Weekendje Weg, waarvan wegens succes in 2020 een tweede druk verschijnt met een nieuwe cover. Tijdens de Kinderboekenweek van 2020 publiceert ze met illustratrice Deborah van de Leijgraaf het prentenboek Cheeta en Slo in Cittaslow. Sinds 2021 combineert ze het schrijven van fictie met het geven van Engelse les op haar oude middelbare school.

Haar boeken zijn persoonlijk, herkenbaar en laagdrempelig met levendige dialogen.
