Dr. James D. Young was a Scottish historian. He lectured at the University of Stirling and was the author of several books and articles on Scottish and British labour history. He was Chair of the John Maclean Society.

He embraced Scottish independence and Scottish republicanism while undertaking research for his book The Rousing of the Scottish Working Class (1979).
