One Can Be by Pat Zietlow Miller
"This is a charmingly multi-layered approach to a child who finds comfort and joy in being alone with her books and other creative outlets, her dog, plants, etc. She recognizes, though, that there can be fun and purpose in joining forces with others. " Read more of this review »

“When adults read a book, they're two feet away; when children read it, they're right inside it.”

“I had a cat I could not see,
Because it stayed in back of me.
It was a very loyal pet-
It's sad we never really met.

I had a nice pet
Who I never met,
Remember it always stayed behind me.
And I'm sure it was a cat, too.”

Heidi Roemer Kathleen Doherty's storytelling skills sparkle and shine in her hilarious new picture book, THE THINGITY-JIG. Meet Bear, who has Rube Goldberg's inginutity and Little Red Hen's determination. When Bear finds an abandoned "thingity-jig" and his friends refuse to help him carry it home, he takes matters into his own paws. Readers will be enchanted by the playful language, and spellbound by the plot, as Bear relies on STEAM principals to overcome the obstacles he faces. Best of all, Bear also proves to be the best kind of friend that Rabbit, Racoon and Fox could ever wish for.The Thingity-Jig
