Syd Gilmore grew up in northern New Jersey with an affinity for science fiction, monster movies, and music. He studied filmmaking briefly at The New School for Social Research in New York City until a chance gig on a low-budget movie compelled him to relocate to Hollywood. After persistently knocking on doors and generally making a pest of himself, he finally landed his first significant job in the movies, which eventually led to a successful career in the film industry.
