This is a mentally involved book, but incredibly detailed. I had to take it slow because of all the regiments and divisions referenced, but I learned a lot about how the Allies worked together during the Normandy campaign. I also appreciated the acco ...more

What a fascinating and intensely researched book. Of everything I’ve read, this hands down has stretched me the most. But I benefited by working through the material over the past few months.

A fascinating and sobering read. A lot of books about D-Day take a broad, 40,000 foot view. This work is different. It focuses in on Omaha Beach. Thus, the reader’s able to follow specific units through story in a much more manageable way.

I’ve wrestled with my opinion of this book for several weeks. I wanted to give it four stars, but I had to settle on three.

This is a short, practical book by a pastor-musician I greatly respect. While this read may not shake your world, it is a nourishing booklet that helps us realign our own attitudes with regard to music. Singing in church isn’t about us and what we li ...more

Let me start by saying I deeply respect the work it takes to write a novel, especially a historical fiction one. Barrett spent great pains researching and trying to make the book realistic. Hats off to her for this work.

This is one of the top books I recommend. I first read it years ago and quote from it regularly. I just finished rereading it, and I loved it just as much—if not more—than the first time.
