A sweet book and it was refreshing to read about a functional family. If you like the earlier Little House books that are more episodic than plot driven, this book is for you. I would have liked it as a kid.

Quirky town and characters. Had good potential but there wasn’t enough plot to put the pieces together in a compelling way. I liked the history fun facts.

A simple story. It didn’t quite make sense that the boy was afraid of the sea so he headed out to sea? But I realize it’s a cultural story that’s been passed down. A lot of specialized vocabulary. I loved the author’s pen and ink drawings.

“In a simple and a peaceful cottage with a beautiful view, you will not be dreaming about the palaces or the heaven, because you already have a perfect thing!”

Martin Luther
“If you want to change the world, pick up your pen and write.”

Oswald Chambers
“We tend to use prayer as a last resort, but God wants it to be our first line of defense. We pray when there's nothing else we can do, but God wants us to pray before we do anything at all.

Most of us would prefer, however, to spend our time doing something that will get immediate results. We don't want to wait for God to resolve matters in His good time because His idea of 'good time' is seldom in sync with ours.”
Oswald Chambers

Julia Cameron
“Progress, not perfection, is what we should be asking of ourselves.”
Julia Cameron, The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity

Beth Moore
“Trying to know God and serve Him before we come to love Him is exhausting.”
Beth Moore, To Live Is Christ: Joining Paul's Journey of Faith
