After a career in business I entered Religious Life in 1976 and spent 25 years with the (Anglican) Society of S. Francis and was ordained to the priesthood.

From 2001 – 2011 I was Rector of St. Andrew's, Romford during which time I was released from my Vows. Now, in addition to priestly ministry, I offer Spiritual Direction and Pastoral Supervision.

For 13 years I taught at the London Centre for Spiritual Direction as well as developing and co-delivering Exploring Christian Spirituality. I now lead Quiet Days, Retreats and day Courses and continue to preside and preach in parishes when invited.

My first book was 'Enfolded in Christ – the Inner Life of a Priest' and my second, 'The Mystery of Faith – Introducing Christian Faith'. In September

SHARING IN THE LIFE OF THE LORD

Today I heard someone say of the Eucharist: ‘It will be wonderful to receive the wine again’. They were commenting on the way the chalice has been withheld since the pandemic began and is only being offered again in some churches.

Whilst I understand her desire for this intimate encounter, I am also sad that the comment suggests there is something ‘missing’ when we cannot receive from the chal

Elizabeth Gilbert
“Saint Anthony said, in his solitude, he sometimes encountered devils who looked like angels, and other times he found angels who looked like devils. When asked how he could tell the difference, the saint said that you can only tell which is which by the way you feel after the creature has left your company.”
Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

Thomas à Kempis
“Let all your thoughts be with the Most High, and direct your humble prayers unceasingly to Christ. If you cannot contemplate high and heavenly things, take refuge in the Passion of Christ, and love to dwell within His Sacred Wounds. For if you devoutly seek the Wounds of Jesus and the precious marks of His Passion, you will find great strength in all troubles.”
Thomas à Kempis, The Inner Life

Thomas à Kempis
“A sure way of retaining the grace of heaven is to disregard outward appearances, and diligently to cultivate such things as foster amendment of life and fervour of soul, rather than to cultivate those qualities that seem most popular.”
Thomas à Kempis, The Inner Life

Thomas à Kempis
“In the Cross is salvation; in the Cross is life; in the Cross is protection against our enemies; in the Cross is infusion of heavenly sweetness; in the Cross is strength of mind; in the Cross is joy of spirit; in the Cross is excellence of virtue; in the Cross is perfection of holiness. There is no salvation of soul, nor hope of eternal life, save in the Cross.”
Thomas à Kempis, The Inner Life

Clement of Rome
“Grant unto us, Lord, that we may set our hope on Thy name…and open the eyes of our hearts, that we
may know Thee.”
“We beseech Thee, Lord and Master, to be our help and succour. Save those among us who are in
tribulation; have mercy on the lowly; lift up the fallen; show Thyself to those in need; heal the sick; turn
again the wanderers of Thy people; feed the hungry; ransom our prisoners; raise up the weak; comfort
the faint-hearted. Let all nations know that Thou art God alone, and that Jesus Christ is Thy Son, and
that we are Thy people and the sheep of Thy pasture.”
“We praise Thee who art able to do these and better things than these, through Jesus Christ the High
Priest and Guardian of our souls, through whom be glory and majesty to Thee, both now and
throughout all generations, for ever and ever. Amen.”
St. Clement of Rome 100 A.D.
