A new female voice in Urdu writing, Dr Saima Iram holds her own with stories that are hard-hitting and reflective of contemporary social realities. She acquired her PhD from GCU Lahore and she is currently working as a professor in its Urdu Department.

The language of her work is the language of streets and not the high brow Persianized Urdu. Since she lives and works in Lahore, her mix of languages includes Punjabi words in her writing.

When S.A. Bukhari started GCU’s Urdu department back in 1940’s that’s what they hoped for: a student later becoming a teacher there and choosing to produce literature.
