| This book absolutely solidified my desire to never go on an expedition to an unknown location. Horrendous conditions, crazy “the living will tell the tale”, amazing story. Well written. Made me want to learn more. | |

| I just didn’t get it. I got into a bunch of “romantacsy” this year and this was one of those series. Just meh. Ending was very unfulfilling. | |

| Couldn’t put it down. Did it as the audio book so I got to hear Kelly tell her story. I didn’t know he outside of Gilmore Girls so I loved hearing about her life, her loves, and her many jobs. Highly recommend. | |

| I enjoyed this story. I don’t know much about the Middle East so any story that is realistic about that experience I find engaging. Sad but good. | |

This is one of those “great set up weird ending” type of books. Couple hundred pages building up to a resolution and then a weird deflation. I was pretty excited about it until the last chapter. Absolutely set up as a series, which annoys me, but is ...more |

“I've always loved you, and when you love someone, you love the whole person, just as he or she is, and not as you would like them to be.”

“When you come out of the grips of a depression there is an incredible relief, but not one you feel allowed to celebrate. Instead, the feeling of victory is replaced with anxiety that it will happen again, and with shame and vulnerability when you see how your illness affected your family, your work, everything left untouched while you struggled to survive. We come back to life thinner, paler, weaker … but as survivors. Survivors who don’t get pats on the back from coworkers who congratulate them on making it. Survivors who wake to more work than before because their friends and family are exhausted from helping them fight a battle they may not even understand. I hope to one day see a sea of people all wearing silver ribbons as a sign that they understand the secret battle, and as a celebration of the victories made each day as we individually pull ourselves up out of our foxholes to see our scars heal, and to remember what the sun looks like.”
