Chris Claremont by J. Andrew Deman

This is a very well researched and thoughtful look at the Claremont Run of XMen. WIth that, it is good. But this was said to be a biography of Claremont. It is not. It spends about 75% of the book's length on the 16 years he wrote the XMen. Where is ...more

It seems that if you want a book to chronicle the punk scene or a particular area, you must, have to, by law, make it an oral history. There have been so many of them and many of them are good. This one was actually pretty great. But I kind of enjoye ...more

A powerful, almost painful thing to read. Some of it was quite heart breaking. A few of them were better than others, but they all contained that true sense of hopelessness that is worth understanding, but it made it a tough read.

Impressive for a teenager writing this, but the book is moralistic as hell and each story is overlong. But i am still happy to have read it.

This is more a 2.5 stars but goodreads does not do half steps. I finished it and think that it was a brisk, short read. IT has a lot to say about writing and biography and the way we want people to see us, I just didn't like the two characters create ...more

Drinking with Dead Women Writers by Elaine Ambrose

This was fun. I read the first one and liked it, and I think I liked this one more. Perhaps the authors had more desire to talk about the challenges of being a female author. The schtick of having them all drink seemed difficult to hold on to for som ...more

This is my fifth book in this series of adaptations of first generation third party Nintendo games. And I am getting a little weary of it. The slavishness to the game mechanics was interesting in the first few books, but now, it is an obstacle to plo ...more

The Tenth Victim by Robert Sheckley

This was so much fun. Sheckley is just a delightful writer of sentences. I had a great time. This was a novelization, but it transcends that appellation. This good times. Near the end, he was rushing and didn't include things from the movie, but that ...more

My Father, the Pornographer by Chris Offutt

It is well written. It carries a great deal of pain and power. And I found it a chore to get through. I just didn't care for it. I know the father, who wrote a lot of pornography over the years, is a monster, but I just hated reading about him. Its m ...more
