In 1941, Ho Weng Toh, known amongst friends as 'Winkie' and 'Daddy-O', had his studies at Hong Kong University interrupted by the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong.
He managed to escape into free China and answered to the call for pilot training in the Chinese Air Force and was sent to USA for training and succeeded to get his wings in 1944. On his return to China, he was assigned to the 1st Bomb Squadron of the Chinese America Composite Wing, which was part of the Gen. Chennault's Flying Tigers, and flew bombing missions on the B25.
Post WWII, he flew for Central Air Transport Corporation while based in Shanghai till 1949. After spending a decade in turbulent China, he finally landed back in Malaya and started his flying career with Malayan A
