Sarah M. Awa has a reputation for being very pale, only coming out at night, and drinking a mysterious red substance. She spends a lot of time coffin (coughin') and making puns, and she lives with two hairy guys who love to howl. Thus, she was destined to write books about creatures of the night--currently, werewolves.

Like her debut novel's main character, Sarah attended a small college surrounded by woods in which anything might be lurking. She survived to earn her B.A. in English, went on to serve as creative director for The Ghostwriting Agency for six spooky years, and became known as a "walking [undead] style guide." In 2019, she co-founded Thinklings Books, LLC. She serves as COO: Crafty Overlord, Obviously.

Just Keep Swimming

Picture As I write this, I’m trying to ignore the tinnitus in my left ear. It started this morning when I woke up (45 minutes before my alarm, thanks to a call from the doctor’s office, grr) and hasn’t gone away yet. It’s probably due to the change in air pressure; a front moved in last night and there was a big storm and it’s still overcast late this morning as I type. Oh well, at least I don’t have a Read more of this blog post »

No Extra Lives by Dan Blakely
"Blakely combines a seriously ill protagonist with portal fantasy, creating a character-driven fantasy tale of a teenager saddled with two apparently unavoidable and unwanted destinies.

Facing an early death from a degenerative disease, Thane withdraws" Read more of this review »

Still a very interesting concept (like the first book) and an absorbing read!

I'm not a huge fan of ambiguous endings, but in the case of this one, it left things open for me to imagine that there was a happy ending, which I am doing (heh).

Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queene, a Prose Rendering by Rebecca K. Reynolds
"This is a review for the book as an adaptation.

PROS: It's very readable and, when I compare it to the original, seems quite accurate. Overall, it's a good adaptation.

CONS: The reason it has four stars instead of five is because of a series of minor a" Read more of this review »

J.R.R. Tolkien
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King

Flannery O'Connor
“Everywhere I go I'm asked if I think the university stifles writers. My opinion is that they don't stifle enough of them. There's many a best-seller that could have been prevented by a good teacher.”
Flannery O'Connor

“I write to discover what I know.”
