Dr. John Frank Cady was an American educator and Foreign Service Officer. During his long career, he was one of the most well-respected South-East Asia specialists in the English-speaking world.

After undergraduate studies at DePauw University, he received his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 1929. He taught at several colleges and universities, both in the U.S. and also in Burma (then still a British colony). After teaching at the University of Rangoon from 1935 to 1938, Professor Cady returned to the U.S. He was teaching, and also serving as Dean, at Franklin College in Indiana at the beginning of WWII.
