“The International Astronomical Union, which is a group of experienced astronomers, decided in 2006 that Pluto should be called a dwarf planet. They explained that Pluto did not meet the three rules used to define a full-size planet. Although Pluto follows two of the rules—it orbits the Sun and is able to keep a round shape—Pluto does not have a magnetic field strong enough to clear other objects from its orbit. This is why scientists reclassified it as a dwarf planet.”
