“PREFACE On account of students’ growing inquiry for a decent and handy volume of my English-Gujarati Dictionary, I found it necessary to compile a suitable one. I have tried to place as many words as are found likely to come in Text Books of the students of the High School Classes. In this volume especially, I have paid attention to writing brief and clear-cut ‘otherwords’, which, I think, the students would easily grasp, remember and reproduce whenever required. I have avoided, as far as possible the style of stuffing all possible meanings and shades of meanings, and the mentioning of all parts of speech in which a word might possibly be used, as if one were bent upon exhausting the total connotation of the word. Naturally, it would be futile and cumbrous to young learners to lead them to the study of words in their entire connotation at the very first acquaintance.
