Based both in London and Romania, and with recently obtaining a Masters degree in American Studies, it is of no surprise that Sefora’s input on the underestimated and oftentimes complicated subject of migration takes on a captivating and revelatory perspective in her newest publication, “The Romanian American Odyssey: A Transgenerational Analysis of Romanian American Identities.” The Romanian American Odyssey is her ground academic work stemming from the interest she developed being born in the early post-communist Romania era when the Romanians’ exodus to countries abroad seemingly happened with a fervor. She witnessed this continually transforming the countryside of Prahova, where she grew up, and the big cities of Brașov and Bucharest, where she pursued higher education. This work is her first undertaking to study Romanian migration, focusing on identities, having developed the requisite language, analytical skills, and exposure to the Romanian-American diaspora. In the future, she aims to build on this and establish a more comprehensive body of research on various issues covering the wider Romanian diaspora.

The subject of her most recent book which was previewed during a student conference under the title “Romanian Migration to the United States: Analyzing Spaces of Transition” granted Sefora Geantă the “Dan Grigorescu” Award in 2022.

Apart from the above-mentioned works, Sefora is in the process of completing and publishing two more volumes – a poetry book tackling the idea of love and heartbreak during the pandemic, and a collection of heart-felt letters exploring the impact made by the absence of closure and old friendships falling apart.

For the past couple of years, Sefora has been working as a private Romanian language tutor, teaching adult professionals from around the globe. She is also taking on translation projects from publishing houses and occasionally collaborates with Romanian NGOs where she volunteers as an interpreter.

Her love for writing and knack for languages has culminated in a diverse array of literary subjects. At present, her main research interest is sociocultural studies and she draws her artistic inspiration from the rich and fascinating universe encapsulated within a wide range of human emotions. Apart from writing, Sefora channels her creativity by making unique digital content in forms of art and speech that touch on contemporary social issues. Her other hobbies are traveling, cooking, and getting involved in humanitarian projects. You can often catch her watching beautiful sunsets and going for long walks in nature with her dog Hunter.
