I am a United States Air Force Veteran, graduate student of US History, Mermaid, Mrs. Georgia United States 2020, and now I guess I can add author to my resume! I am a vivacious reader and lover of all things books. I truly believe that readers are leaders and that books are a gateway drug to alternate realities. I have a few other books swirling around in my head that I hope to one day make a reality. We shall see!

The problem with “older” history books is the over use of academic language which makes interesting subjects harder to read and in a sense gatekeeps it from readers. This book is one of them. Heck the title alone uses a “$10 word” needlessly. The sub ...more

This is a 3.5 star rounded up because I did not know until the authors note that this was historical fiction for a real place and I like a good book that brings light to a history that I did not know about. I will say I found myself angry when Dr. Ba ...more

exactly what I was looking for. A bit of spice for my holiday! I liked the plot overall though I think in the end the parents took it a little too well too quickly. yes I know the French are different but it felt too tidy. Also semi-spoiler, but her ...more

Ivan Turgenev
“What strikes me most forcibly in the ants and beetles and other worthy insects is their astounding seriousness. They run to and fro with such a solemn air, as though their life were something of such importance! A man the lord of creation the highest being, stares at them, if you please, and they pay no attention to him. Why, a gnat will even settle on the lord of creation's nose, and make use of him for food. It's most offensive. And, on the other hand, how is their life inferior to ours? And why shouldn't they take themselves seriously, if we are to be allowed to take ourselves seriously?”
Ivan Turgenev, On the Eve

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
“Racism should never have happened and so you don't get a cookie for reducing it.”
