This was fun, but so far removed from realism that it was laughable at points. Like, what are we doing...? Even I know that's not how chain of custody works. That said, I was still hooked and wanted to know what was going to happen next. ...more

Not as suspenseful as I thought it would be but still awesome! The end was worth it.

Okay this kinda slapped. This was exactly what I want in a detective mystery. The whole thing should be read in the rain.

Definitely look at the trigger warnings though if you need them. They’re kinda spoilers but it’s very intense so beware.

“I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to know why story-truth is truer sometimes than happening-truth.”
Tim O'Brien, The Things They Carried

Garth Greenwell
“As I walked along that path,

I felt drawn from myself, elated,

struck stupidly good for a moment

by the extravagant beauty of the world.”
Garth Greenwell, What Belongs to You

Anne Lamott
“Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining.”
Anne Lamott

Colson Whitehead
“And America, too, is a delusion, the grandest one of all. The white race believes--believes with all its heart--that it is their right to take the land. To kill Indians. Make war. Enslave their brothers. This nation shouldn't exist, if there is any justice in the world, for its foundations are murder, theft, and cruelty. Yet here we are.”
Colson Whitehead, The Underground Railroad

Colson Whitehead
“Slavery is a sin when whites were put to the yoke, but not the African. All men are created equal, unless we decide you are not a man.”
Colson Whitehead, The Underground Railroad
