“On page 232 of his book, Murder In Memphis, Mark Lane wrote this: “On November 30, 1973, it was revealed that the CIA had forty full-time news reporters on the CIA payroll as undercover informants, some of these as full-time agents. Two months earlier, William F. Colby , then the director of the CIA, ordered a review of the practice since legitimate reporters were concerned that agent-journalists seriously compromised the integrity of the American press in general and might cripple the ability of reporters to function overseas.”
