Steve Ditmars, born in Long Beach, California, is a former United States Marine officer and a twenty-eight-year veteran of the Long Beach Police Department.

While working there he served mainly in patrol. He worked for six years as a police service dog handler and another three as the supervisor of the K-9 Unit.

He currently is living in Prescott, Arizona, with his wife, Barbi, and their two German Shepherd rescues, Gunnar and Missy. When not writing, he enjoys spending time with his son and daughter and his granddaughter.
His hobbies include woodworking and hiking.

Big Dogs The Adventure Begins is his first book.
