Daryl Kho is the author of Mist-Bound: How to Glue Back Grandpa, the multiple award-winning and bestselling fantasy novel for kids and families published by Penguin Books SEAsia.

Mist-Bound swept all of Singapore's major children/youth book awards in 2022: Firstly it was awarded the Hedwig Anuar Book Award (HABA) by the Singapore Book Council , given biennially to Singapore's most outstanding children's middle-grade book. Next, it won the 2022 Singapore Book Awards for Best Young Persons Title (ages 7-18 years), which was presented by the Singapore Book Publishers Association. Mist-bound was also a finalist for the Singapore Book Awards' Book of the Year award and even made it to the Top Ten Reader’s Choice books after an open public vote. Finally the book was nominated for the 2022 Crystal Kite Award, presented by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), a global non-profit organization.

Mist-Bound was on Times Bookstores' Singapore's Children's best-seller list for 26 weeks, and on MPH and Kinokuniya Malaysia's Childrens bestseller lists for over 10 weeks: amongst the few local/regional books on all lists. Daryl was also named Times Bookstores' Author of the Month in November 2021.

Mist-Bound has been featured in numerous media platforms across Singapore and Malaysia, including leading newspapers (The Straits Times' Singapore, The Star, Nanyang Siang Pau, The Sun Malaysia and Malaysiakini), radio and webcasts (ChannelNewsAsia987FM, BFM Malaysia, Vintageradio Singapore, Great People TV, Two Book Nerds Talking etc), writer's festivals (Singapore Writers Festival, Malaysia Writer's Festival) and online publications (makchic, Project we forgot, A-List Singapore etc).

Sadly, Daryl’s father passed away before Mist-Bound could be completed and read to him. Daryl nearly abandoned the project thereafter. Ultimately however, he found renewed purpose to see it through: each time that the story was read, was a chance anew for Grandpa to be “saved”, over and over, and over again.

In terms of other works, Daryl's short story "The Wake Up Call" was published in HarperCollins Childrens Books' "Flipped: Mystery Stories/ Sci-Fi stories" in June 2022. A piece about the metaverse, "The Wake Up Call" was originally published in 1997 in INCITE, an annual anthology featuring the best student works from Ontario, Canada where Daryl attended high school. That same year, Daryl was also awarded the Reginald A. Finney Award for Proficiency in Senior English. At his alma mater, the University of Chicago, his plays and kung-fu performances (all co-written, co-directed and co-acted with his landlord, no less!) were the highlight and backbone of the annual Chinese New Year Shows that were performed to paying audiences of close to a thousand.
