The friendship that produced this collaborative work defining friendship began autumn of 1991 in a classroom at Singapore American School, Republic of Singapore, between a shy, quiet 12-year-old student and a crusty middle-aged teacher. In the subsequent thirty years, there have been a hundred letters, sixty books, kind and encouraging words scattered throughout the world and most recently between Phoenix, Arizona and Wolseley, Saskatchewan, Canada.

We used our own friendship and our individual experiences to fuel the vocabulary used to create the oneness between Mary Catherine, Naomi, and Richard.
