A brief history of the story of Mirage: I began writing this (mostly) fictional tale during my freshman year of Newbury College. There is a reservoir, Chestnut Hill Reservation, that was close by to campus, and in a lot of my free time I wrote the entire first draft of a mostly fantasy novel that, at the time, I called Sonder. As I took more fictional work shop courses, and read more Bradbury, Pernice, King, Thompson, and Almond, I began developing more of my own writers voi

Wisława Szymborska
“A Note

Life is the only way
to get covered in leaves,
catch your breath on the sand,
rise on wings;

to be a dog,
or stroke its warm fur;

to tell pain
from everything it's not;

to squeeze inside events,
dawdle in views,
to seek the least of all possible mistakes.

An extraordinary chance
to remember for a moment
a conversation held
with the lamp switched off;

and if only once
to stumble upon a stone,
end up soaked in one downpour or another,

mislay your keys in the grass;
and to follow a spark on the wind with your eyes;
and to keep on not knowing
something important.”
Wislawa Szymborska

“Funny how a thing like that can be so damned important, but you don't know it's important until an instant later in the big scheme of time. Then you go back and try to retrieve it. You tell yourself it's in there somewhere. But it's really in that no-man's-land of the moment before you woke up and started paying attention to your own life.”
Catherine Ryan Hyde, Chasing Windmills
