Annette Gisby grew up in a small town in Northern Ireland moving to London when she was seventeen. Being a very small town there were no bookshops and a small library. When she’d devoured every book she could get her hands on in the library, she started writing her own stories so she would always have something to read later.

When not writing she enjoys reading, cinema, theatre, walks along deserted beaches or wandering around ruined castles (great places for inspiration!)

She still lives in England with her husband, a collection of porcelain dolls and stuffed penguins and enough books to fill a small library. It’s diminishing gradually since the discovery of ebooks but still has a way to go.

Hi, J

The Chosen was written primarily as a romance between two male characters, so I have always promoted it as that and as a gay m/m romance book.

In another novel I have, one of the side characters is a lesbian, but I haven't mentioned that anywhere that I can think of, but it appeared on a list about books with LGBT characters somwhere, so someone must know about it. :)

Hmm. I've read various fantasy and thrillers, where the main characters happened to be gay and love or romance played a part as well, but it wasn't necessarily mentioned in the blurb. Richard Morgan's fantasy series starting with The Steel Remains has 3 main characters, 1 gay male, 1 straight male, and 1 lesbian woman. Nowhere was that mentioned in the blurb as far as I remember.

You could add at the bottom of your blurb something like LGBT friendly and leave it at that. If it's not a romance genre book, I don't think you'd need to be any more explicit than that. A lot of people like to see the LGBT label, even if it isn't a romance as they like to read books that contain diverse characters.

But I think I would have to go with Alec and Seregil from the Nightrunner Series by Lynn Flewelling. I love both of those characters and they seem so well suited to each other. Those were one of the first mainstream books I'd read that had LGBT characters in it and that the main pairing was two men did not diminish the story in the slightest. It was a world where all pairings were accepted.

They both go through so much heartache and angst, but they always come back strong, and crucially for me, they tackle things together. I would really love to read more about them, but I think that series is finished for now.(less)

“Her screams, as always, were silent.”
Annette Gisby, Silent Screams

“I’m not a boy!” Dashan retorted hotly. “How dare you speak to me like that!”

“I’ll speak to you any way I see fit. You are sorely lacking in discipline and wouldn’t know danger if it bit you in the arse!” Ryland looked towards the door where Dashan wanted to go. “Do you have any idea what sort of place that is?”

“A brothel?”

Ryland laughed so hard his head fell back. “A brothel, he says. My, my, aren’t you the innocent? It is a brothel, but a certain type of one. The men who frequent it are known to have very particular tastes.”

“What sort of tastes?” Dashan was curious now. Did Ryland know it was a brothel for men who wanted men? And how did he know? Did he use this place too?

Ryland shook his head. “That’s not something the king would appreciate me telling his son.”

“Show me then. I demand that you show me. That’s an order.”
