Huldar has BA and MA degrees in Literary Studies from the University of Iceland, and has worked as a writer ever since.
His first novel Góðir Íslendingar (Good Icelanders) came out in 1998. The book dealt with a young Reykjavíker who abandons the down-town cafés and sets off in mid-winter on a two-month trip around the country in an old jeep. The book was nominated for the Icelandic Literary Prize. His second novel, Múrinn í Kína (The Wall in China), is based on Huldar's travels in China, and was published in 2004.
