Narsinh Mehta (15th century) is one of the most loved saint poets on Gujarat. He is called the `Adi Kavi' of Gujarati because he is the first major poet in Gujarati whose influence and significance is widely acknowledged. His compositions are sung through out Gujarat with great love and devotion. His `Vaishnava Jana To...' got international popularity as it was particular favourite with Mahatma Gandhi. His essentially musical compositions are full of passion, grandeur and moral earnestness. Many of his compositions, probably composed early in his life, reveal the influence of lyrical eroticism of Jayadeva. His later compositions are more didactic and philosophical.
