Traducteur passionné, André Markowicz a notamment traduit pour la collection Babel l'intégralité de l’œuvre romanesque de Dostoïevski (vingt-neuf volumes), mais aussi le théâtre complet de Gogol ou celui de Tchekhov (en collaboration avec Françoise Morvan). Tout son travail tend à faire passer en français quelque chose de la culture russe, et notamment de la période fondamentale du XIXe siècle. Le Soleil d'Alexandre (2011) est son grand œuvre, qui vient éclairer et compléter toutes ses publications et lectures ainsi que la traduction en Babel d'Eugène Onéguine (Babel n° 924) et du recueil Le Convive de pierre et autres scènes dramatiques (Babel n° 85) de Pouchkine, ou encore la pièce de Griboïédov Du malheur d'avoir de l'esprit (Babel n° 78 ...more
