“Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned. - Anon”
Lyndon Lamborn, Standing for Something More: The Excommunication of Lyndon Lamborn

“What typically happens when an individual is reviewing evidence that might disagree or contradict the initial idea or belief is the ‘makes sense – STOP’ perfunctory analysis syndrome. The person begins reviewing the information, focuses on a single topic or tenet, finds a way to discount it or explain it away and then immediately concludes that all the information can be explained away or dismissed in a similar manner, and going through each and every fact is a waste of time. The impatience felt by the investigator is a manifestation of the confirmation bias. Many cannot overcome it and fall victim to the ‘makes sense – stop’ perfunctory analysis syndrome.”

“My wife and son were sure to endure pain as a result of my departure. Since I was a prominent and outspoken member of the congregation, my departure from the LDS church might include a ‘disciplinary council’. A disciplinary council is a panel of fifteen men, most of whom I know personally, given the responsibility of judging what, if any, action should be taken to protect the church and help me see ‘the error of my ways’. This process, if required, was going to be torture.”
