“Only 15 percent of us perform the life-affirming, sanity-bolstering, empathy-forming act of spending time inside somebody else’s brain.”

“I’m James Patterson, just another writer who loves stumbling onto a story that builds its own atmosphere so confidently. I just finished Inspector Bassé and the Lost Boys, and I had to tell you how much I enjoyed the blend of 19th century grit with the supernatural edge.
What really hooked me was how naturally you wove werewolves, sorcery laws, and old world policing into a narrative that still feels grounded and human. Bassé himself is a terrific anchor, methodical, sharp, but navigating a world that’s constantly bending the rules of reality. And the missing Notaire case has this slow burn tension that feels both historical and deliciously uncanny. The whole thing reads like someone resurrected the best parts of classic French crime fiction and slipped in just enough magic to let the shadows breathe.
I’d love to hear what corner of the Bassé universe you’re exploring next, or how you approach balancing historical detail with fantastical elements, it’s a mix that really works.”

“Shivering slightly, we all moved together to form a close circle and hug one another tight.
The four of us were the only family we had left. Tommy, who’d been living on boats longer than any of us, started mumbling an old sailor’s prayer: “Though Death waits off the bow, we’ll not answer to him now.”
I hoped he was right.
But I had a funny feeling that Death might not take no for an answer.”
