“Don’t follow my mother-in-law’s bad example. And don’t listen to me if you enjoy offending people. If you don’t enjoy offending people, a less rude word for “you” is あなた (anata), where the middle character is な (na) instead of ん (n). But you hardly ever need to be saying that, either. Call people by their names in Japanese whenever possible.”
