Se graduó de químico en la UNAM en 1953, y recibió su doctorado en física de la Universidad de Maryland en 1959. Fue fundador y profesor de la Escuela Superior de Física y Matemáticas del IPN (1960-1963), de la Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (1964-1966), de la Facultad de Ciencias de la UNAM (1967-1984), investigador en el Centro Nuclear de Salazar, subdirector del Instituto Mexicano del Petróleo a cargo de la Subdirección de Investigación Básica de Procesos (1967-1974), fundador y jefe del Departamento de Física y Química de la UAM-Iztapalapa (1974-1978) e investigador del Instituto de Investigación en Materiales de la UNAM (1984-1988).
