Lily B. White wrote Night Princess: My Year as a Sex Slave, the fictional account of a fourteen-year-old runaway tricked into prostitution, so readers could see and feel the lives of modern-day sex slaves. The author first learned about sex trafficking in other countries, and was surprised to discover that it occurs with alarming frequency in the United States. In fact, Minnesota, Ms. White's home state, is 13th in the nation in terms of human trafficking, due in part to its border with Canada, and the fact that its diversity can, unfortunately, hide people of all backgrounds.
