Growing up on a farm and in a small town in Missouri, the natural world became my friend, spiritual guide and inspiration. Biographies were my favorite reading. They inspired me and showed me the diversity, difficulties, strength and beauty in the world and people. I asked a lot of questions. It got me in a lot of trouble, especially in Sunday school. I still ask questions and it still gets me in trouble at times.

As an adult, I've lived primarily in major cities. Houston, Seattle, Fresno, San Diego and now in the San Francisco Bay Area. I've worked in nursing homes, mental health, journalism and higher education. Writing has been part of my life since forever--no matter what else I'm doing.
