I love Ruta Sepetys’ work, but I was disappointed in this one. The pacing felt off — so much buildup, scenes that felt repetitive and the writing seemed overdone in some places. And the ending felt flat to me.

It took me awhile to get into this story, but I really loved how it ended.

Very informative and perfect for a project I’m currently doing with my classes. My only critique is that the long sidebars make it tough to read aloud.
