Alaeddin Senel was born in 1941 in Kütahya. He graduated from Kütahya High School. He completed his undergraduate studies at A.Ü. Faculty of Political Sciences and his doctorate at the same institution. In 1971, he submitted his doctoral thesis titled Equality and Inequality in Ancient Greece (in 1971).
In 1974, he worked on his doctoral thesis for one year at Hull University in England. He taught the courses History of Political Thought, Contemporary Political Movements, and Ideology at the Faculty of Political Sciences. His textbook History of Political Thought was published in 1982.
In 1982, he left the university in protest after registering at the Council of Higher Education and 1402. Alekseyev, The Origin and Development of the Human Species (1993) were translated into Turkish. He also made joint translations of G. Childe, What Happened in History (with Mete Tunçay, 1974); F. Oppenheimer, The State (with Yavuz Sabuncu, 1984); B. Moore, The Social Origins of the Dictator and Democracy (with Şirin Tekeli, 1989); E. J. Hobsbawm, The Age of Revolution (with Jülide Ergüder, 1989).
